Steven Devereaux Greene is the Executive Chef of Herons at The Umstead Hotel and Spa, located in Cary, NC, which is lauded for its progressive American regional cuisine. He holds a dual role as Director of Food and Beverage, overseeing Herons, The Umstead Bar & Lounge, in-room dining, private events, and catering operations for the property. Greene’s passion for using ingredients and products from the rich Piedmont region to create beautifully refined culinary experiences is evident daily in The Umstead’s award-winning dining program. Since 2009, he has led the restaurant to achieve a Forbes Five-Star rating, one of only 64 restaurants in the world to hold such status. Greene is also a multi-nominated "Best Chef: Southeast" semi-finalist by the James Beard Foundation in 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2020, and was named a "Rising Star" by Restaurant Hospitality in 2008.
