JUAN GUTIERREZ

Years of Participation

Hailing from Cartago, Colombia, Pastry Chef Juan Gutierrez dreamed of cooking and baking professionally from a young age. Though his family encouraged him to pursue a career as a doctor, he decided to study culinary arts, relocating to Chicago to attend the prestigious French Pastry School when he was 19 years old.

At age 24, Gutierrez acquired the title of executive pastry chef at Longman & Eagle and one of his defining career moments occurred less than a year later when he was nominated for a prestigious Jean Banchet Award for Rising Star Pastry Chef of the Year. Prior to joining the team at Four Seasons Hotel Chicago and Adorn Bar & Restaurant in summer 2021, Gutierrez led the pastry kitchen at Virgin Hotels Chicago.

As Adorn’s pastry chef, Gutierrez oversees the creation and execution of desserts and baked goods at the restaurant. With a cultured, whimsical style, he enjoys dreaming up desserts that play with all senses and are conversation pieces. He has designed a unique international pastry menu, taking guests on a trip around the world with desserts paying homage to countries like Mexico, Italy, USA, India, and his home country of Colombia. A proud Latino, Juan created a signature dessert inspired by his childhood called the Colombia Tierra Querida with coffee mousse, Arequipa crémeux, and obleas. He also helms an impressive wedding cake program at the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago.
