Joseph Harrison is the Executive Chef at Common Thread, an inventive, ingredient-driven
restaurant in Savannah, GA.
Born and raised in Covington, GA, Harrison was first introduced to the world of cooking during
high school, when he had the opportunity to spend his senior year at a trade school. He lost his
father at a young age, so he did not grow up with food as a big part of his family traditions but
found a natural rhythm in the kitchen thanks to the guidance and leadership of an instructor who
still inspires his work to this day.
After graduating from school and cutting his teeth at a high-volume fast-food restaurant,
Harrison’s restaurant career began in earnest. He worked on the opening team for The Mystic
Grill, a Southern-inspired restaurant in his hometown, before moving to Atlanta in 2016 in
search of a bigger city with a more diverse food scene. Harrison joined chef Matthew
Ridgeway’s Basque Country-inspired Cooks & Soldiers, where he discovered a love of Spanish
cuisine and wood-fire cooking.
Harrison moved to Savannah in 2021 to join the Common Thread team as a cook and was
promoted to Chef de Cuisine shortly after and was recently appointed at Common Thread’s Executive Chef.
Working alongside FARM Hospitality Group Chef/Partner Brandon Carter,
Harrison has fostered a uniquely collaborative and positive atmosphere amongst his kitchen
team. A natural leader, Harrison believes in never taking himself too seriously and challenges
his team to continue to grow each day. At Common Thread, he prides himself on creating
thoughtful dishes that are rooted in technique, packed with flavor, and always leave a guest
pleasantly surprised and intrigued.
When Harrison isn’t in the kitchen at Common Thread, he can be found camping, biking, hiking,
or taking a mental break at the gym.
