Chris Schoedler, Chef/Partner of Sushi-Wa Izakaya in Charleston, knew he wanted to be a sushi chef the moment he created his first roll. From then, he made it a goal to own his own sushi restaurants. Chris started practicing Japanese cuisine with his mentor/now business partner Kazu Murakami in 2009 at Yamato Japanese Steakhouse in Mount Pleasant,SC. The duo went on to open Sushi-Wa Izakaya in 2018 with the goal of bringing traditional Japanese cuisine to the lowcountry.
Chris has a strong passion for traditional Japanese food and drink and has been working tirelessly to introduce premium Japanese sake to the Charleston market. Chris is a Sake Service Institute (SSI) Certified Sake Advisor and is currently working on his SSI Certified Sake Sommelier accreditation.
