Carmel Greenberg
Years of Participation
2024
Carmel Greenberg was welcomed into the Clos du Val winemaking team in the summer of 2021.
Along with a strong foundational education in Viticulture and Enology from the University of
California, Davis, Carmel also brings a breadth of experience in crafting renowned Napa Valley
wines, from Cakebread Cellars to Buccella, and most recently, Dominus Estate.
Carmel originally planned to channel her creative passions into the world of design, but while
working at a French fine dining restaurant in her native Tel Aviv, Israel, she became transfixed by
the world of wine. She soon began diving into the study of wine, and when she won first place at
a national wine knowledge competition, she knew she was on the right path.
In 2006, Carmel relocated to California in to pursue her dream of becoming a winemaker. After
obtaining her degree from UC Davis, she continued her training in the cellars of Napa Valley
wineries and deepened her affinity for terroir-driven, Bordeaux-style red wines.
Now embarking upon her next journey as Winemaker of Clos du Val, Carmel has quickly
employed her experience working with Bordeaux varieties and exceptional vineyards to not only
continue but actively shape Clos du Val’s 50-year legacy of elegant, supple, complex, and inspiring
wines.
When she is not in the cellar or vineyards, Carmel enjoys cooking, snowboarding, mountain
biking, and hiking around the Bay Area with her husband and two daughters. Her background in
design and passion for aesthetics can be felt in all her pursuits.
We are delighted to have such a dynamic individual at the helm of the next generation of Clos du
Val wines.
