Years of Participation

2022, 2024

Alex Meyer and Luciana Giangrandi are chef owners of two of Miami’s most celebrated restaurants, Boia De and Walrus Rodeo. They’ve been recognized by the Michelin Guide with Boia De earning a star in both 2022 and 2023. Walrus Rodeo which opened in December 2022 has been included in Michelin’s 2023 restaurants to watch. Alex, a Los Angeles native who graduated from Emory University with a degree in economics got his culinary start under the guidance of Jon Shook and Vinny Dottolo at Animal restaurant in 2008 helping the duo open their second restaurant Son of a Gun. Moving to New York Alex worked at Eleven Madison Park before joining the opening team of Nomad.  It was there that he first met Luciana who, like Alex was drawn to the culinary world after receiving her college degree – in her case, it was journalism. She interned at Scarpetta in New York, before joining the Nomad opening team, and from there moved to Carbone. She and Alex moved to Miami, where Luci had grown up as part of a large Italian- Latin family. They opened a beloved food truck called La Pollita serving up tacos and a chicken sandwich with a cult following in Miami’s Design District before opening Boia De  in 2019, in a neighborhood restaurant tucked away in an off the beaten path strip mall in Miami’s Little Haiti.  In December 2022 along with chef/partner Jeff Maxfield, they opened Walrus Rodeo, a woodfire based eatery  just steps away from Boia De in the same shopping center.  In addition to their Michelin honors, they’ve been James Beard Foundation semi-finalists and have received kudos from media throughout the US and internationally.
