Charleston Wine + Food continues their commitment to the culinary community as the recipient of a grant from the Truist Foundation.
The Truist Foundation Grant supports communities by investing in innovative nonprofits that align with their key areas of focus: building career pathways to economic mobility, strengthening small businesses and thriving communities.
The 2023 Charleston Wine + Food festival debuted a new high school culinary apprenticeship to include 4 CCSD culinary high school programs (and counting) and serviced 33+ students. In the 2024 festival, the program grew. The paid apprenticeship provided hands-on experience for the students working with CHSWF’s world-class chefs and event planners.
Charleston Wine + Food’s commitment to building career pathways to economic mobility with the assistance of the Truist Foundation Grant will continue to help this initiative. With the grant we can continue to expand our education program and support other programs that aim to build a sustainable food and beverage community. In 2023 the organization introduced an ingredient stipending program that provides participating talent a stipend to offset product and labor associated with the participation in the festival. This program decreases the barrier to entry to participation and allows the organization to diversify the talents and voices showcased through its annual programming.
