In celebration of Black History Month, we’re honoring the unique stories + experiences of the people who make up the many layers of our community. Tim Davis is the Sales Manager at Firefly Distillery and a Charleston Wine + Food Board Member – a leader in the community who represents the CHSWF brand and portrays our values of people first, community, and good stewardship.
who taught you to cook and how do you honor them?
I learned how to cook from both of my grandmothers. My dad’s mom, Mable, could bake anything from scratch without measurement. My mother’s mom, Dorothy, had the most flavorful dishes and spent hours in preparation before cooking even started. As I prepare most meals, I think of the heart and soul both of them put into each dish.
How has food influenced who you are as a person?
For me, food has a way of bringing people together, no matter where you are from. Everywhere I travel in the world I find that the similarities and differences in cultural dishes are what binds us. Imagine all of the wonderful conversation being had over the dinner table from people who have never met before. It’s a great way to meet people and expand your universe.
What legacy do you want to leave?
I would love to influence people to step outside of their boundaries and grow. Experience new people, lands, culture and ways of thinking. Be kind and know that our time on this earth is very, very limited. Use it wisely and share the knowledge.
