Volunteer Lead

Dates of Contract: July 11, 2019 – April 15, 2020

Reports to: Event Director

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Volunteer Lead shall be responsible for the oversight + management of all festival volunteers. In collaboration with the Charleston Wine + Food staff, the Volunteer Lead shall understand the volunteer needs of each event on the festival schedule, and schedule volunteers as requested. This role shall assist with the scheduling of volunteers as needed for events + initiatives outside of festival week as well. Overall, the Volunteer Lead shall work as a brand representative for Charleston Wine + Food, and work to recruit and maintain a database of volunteers that can powerfully share what the festival represents and uphold our highest brand standards.

DUTIES

Act as liaison between Charleston Wine + Food core team and the Volunteer Captains/all festival volunteers to clearly communicate needs for the festival schedule.

Be available in person or through phone/email to answer any questions or adjust any scheduling conflicts.

Work with festival software systems to create the recruitment form, schedule, and maintain volunteer database.

Powerfully communicate all information and required skills to volunteers through email in a timely fashion.

Work with the events team to create + execute a supportive incentive program for volunteers.

Attend all-hands staff meetings to retain all necessary information required to be successful in this role.

Plan, execute, and lead Volunteer Orientation to present all necessary information for volunteers to be successful on the ground.

Organize and oversee volunteer check-in at all events.

Set-up and maintain the Volunteer Tent space throughout the festival week.

Manage all volunteers and their placement throughout the festival week and ancillary events and initiatives.

Act as a brand representative of Charleston Wine + Food and portray our values of people first, community, diversity, and good stewardship

Recognize + use our higher purpose as a guide in every decision made on behalf of the festival: β€œTo be a catalyst for connections that inspire curiosity through thoughtful storytelling + meaningful experiences with a sense of place.”

SKILLS REQUIRED

Must be available + onsite during 2020 festival week (Monday, March 2, 2020 – Monday, March 9, 2020)

Great interpersonal skills: kind, confident, and firm when necessary

Extreme attention to detail

Quick problem-solver, strong leader, very organized  + enthusiastic

Self-sufficient in processing details + ideas; willing to take + act on direction.

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

Provide own laptop + smart-phone that is able to run cloud-based software and apps
