Thai Phi was born in a refugee camp in Chon Buri, Thailand during his parents emigration from Vietnam and grew up in both San Francisco, CA and Sumter, SC. He often travels back to Saigon to see his aunties and cousins and to learn all of the family recipes.

Pink Bellies is his culinary brainchild, which he started soon after graduating from the College of Charleston with his Master of Business Administration degree. With a passion for food and formal business education, he hit the ground running in 2014 by opening the Pink Bellies food truck to national acclaim. In 2021, the first ever Pink Bellies restaurant opened at 595 King St.
