Michael Passmore is the founder and proprietor of PASSMORE, a producer and purveyor of fine foods, located on Passmore Ranch’s rolling grasslands in Sloughhouse, California.
Established in 2005, PASSMORE is best known for their sustainable fish and world-class caviar and roe. PASSMORE fish carry a “Best Choice” rating by the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch program, its highest ranking for sustainable practices and positive environmental impact. PASSMORE’s clientele includes some of the finest and notable chefs in the world, many of which have been recognized by the James Beard Foundation, The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, and the Michelin Guide.
Always innovative and active in the culinary, agriculture, and aquaculture communities,
Michael has served as President of the California Aquaculture Association and an elected
member of the USDA Farm Service Agency County Committee.
Michael’s work has been recognized in several publications including Food & Wine, Bon Appetit, Saveur, Eating Well, and the The New York Times, as well as appearances in numerous television shows and festivals including, Pebble Beach Food & Wine, South Beach Wine & Food Festival, and the Food & Wine Classic in Aspen.
While his work as a rancher and caviar maker is never quite done, balance is essential, so most evenings after his work is done, you’ll find Michael out on his porch, overlooking the ranch’s waters, taking in a sunset with his wife Vandy, their pup Shepherd, and a wine glass full of something good and red in his hand.
