Marvin Ross is a fifth-generation farmer who owns and operates Peculiar Pig Farm with his wife, Nikki, and their family. He opened the farm in 2009 on the same land his grandfather once farmed and cultivated.
Marvin specializes in raising multiple breeds of hogs including Duroc, Hampshire, and the Hereford, which is currently listed as endangered. He also raises goats, chickens, ducks, and cows. His animals are raised with respect and roam free in wooded lots which mimics their most natural environment.
Using the meat from his farm, he and his wife run a farm-to-table catering company. Marvin specializes in whole hog barbeque and uses local vegetables from other farmers in the Low Country. The farm also supplies meat to over 40 restaurants in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, including The Grey in Savannah, Cúrate in Ashville, and Butcher & Bee in Charleston.
Peculiar Pig Farm is a staple in the Low Country. Taking the knowledge he learned from his grandfather, Marvin has been able to continue his family’s legacy through the farm. He is making his dream of a healthier way of sustainable eating become a reality for his community and the flavor of his happy hogs can back that up.
