Janie had no intention of running a winery. But when her brother Jimi, the founder of Brooks Winery, passed away unexpectedly in 2004, Janie assumed responsibility for the operations.

Brooks Winery is now one of the most esteemed establishments in North American winemaking, including recognition by Wine & Spirits Magazine as one of the Top 100 Wineries in the World. Brooks has also been named in the Top 100 World’s Best Vineyards in 2023 and 2024.

Janie has built one of the top destinations in Oregon for their tasting room and has created America’s favorite Wine Club. Janie personally writes an email to her Wine Club Members every Sunday.

Janie is known for her energy and kindness, and her hard work for Brooks Winery and the Willamette Valley. She is a Certified Sommelier through both the Court of Master Sommeliers and the Wine and Spirits Education Trust. Janie is committed to education for both her team and her guests.

Under Janie’s direction, Brooks Winery became a Certified B Corporation and partnered with 1% For The Planet dedicating revenue to regenerative agriculture and climate balance. In 2023, Brooks was awarded Green Company of The Year by Drinks Magazine. Brooks has continued to farm their Estate Vineyard biodynamically and is Demeter Certified in the Estate vineyard and the winery.

Known for social responsibility and a heightened sense of hospitality, Janie hopes to leave a legacy of being “selfless and kind,” and her achievements are a testament to her priorities. Janie was recently honored in February 2025 with the Oregon Wine Industry Leadership Award.
