Chef Tater Coaxum, a native of Charleston, has a deep-rooted passion for various culinary styles. Growing up in a food and fellowship-centric environment, she developed a profound connection to the culinary world from an early age.
Her journey includes formal culinary training at the Art Institute of Charleston and the Culinary Institute of Charleston, complemented by an associate’s degree in small business and entrepreneurship. Her most cherished memories involve observing her grandmother and mother prepare Sunday dinners, instilling in her the values of food, family, and togetherness. Chef Tater eagerly joined her mother in the kitchen as soon as she could reach the counter, nurturing her enduring love for cooking, which now drives her culinary endeavors.
Chef Tater is the proud owner of Tater’s Sea & Soul, a seafood and soul food ghost kitchen concept located in North Charleston, SC. Her culinary expertise and passion for food, family, and fellowship are beautifully manifested through her establishment, where she combines her formal culinary education and lifelong love for cooking to create exceptional dishes that capture the essence of both seafood and soul food traditions in the Gullah Geechee culture.
Notably, Chef Tater also proudly served her country as a Army combat veteran. In her leisure time, she can be found crabbing, fishing, and savoring moments with her loved ones.
