After earning a double major in Philosophy and Religious Studies from the College of Charleston, Cameron Read decided that becoming an educator was not the path toward his passion. Instead, he followed his budding obsession with home-brewing and landed a job at Southend Brewery & Smokehouse in Charleston, where he worked as Assistant Brewer for a year. During that time, Cameron met Scott Shor and Rich Carley and was hired to open and run The Greenville Beer Exchange (GBX), which he did until 2014. He also continued brewing his own beer and spearheading collaborations between GBX and upstate breweries RJ Rockers and Blue Ridge Brewing Co.
When planning for Edmund’s Oast began, Cameron was a natural fit to become Head Brewer. Given the freedom to create all manner of fantastical brews, Cameron keeps the house beer program at Edmund’s in a constant state of flux. He became Brewing Director for the restaurant as well as Edmund’s Oast Brewing Co.
