Austin Power

Years of Participation

Austin Power is a seriously silly Sake Sommelier born and raised in Clinton, South Carolina. A graduate of Parsons: The New School for Design, Austin is also a painter and graphic designer. Austin was brought into the world of Sake by his best friends, Kazu: a product designer from Osaka Japan and Caroline: A Fine Art appraiser/curator from Montgomery Alabama.

Together they discovered the secret of Sake… “If you’re not having fun, you’re doing it wrong!”

Austin follows a simple philosophy, “If I can see you, aren’t we already friends?!”

Austin studied Sake under the guidance of his Sake Mama Satsko Watanabe (Sake Bar Satsko) for ten years, while also studying many styles of beverage. Sake is still his favorite. He worked with Ariel Arce at Tokyo Record Bar, Niche Niche, Special Club and Airs Champagne - crafting signature speeches to ignite passion for Sake.

After 12 years in the Sake industry, Power opened his “Accidental Bar” (98 avenue C – East Village – NYC) on June 10th, 2021. A true Covid miracle!

Accidental Bar hopes to help more people drink more Sake more irresponsibly! Come for the party, leave a little smarter. And hey… Even if you don’t like it, at least you learned something (and you’re still a little tipsy).
