Alejandro Munoz

Years of Participation

Born and raised in Austin, Texas, Alejandro Munoz found his love of cooking at home with his mother and aunts making tamales at 6 years old, a family tradition that is still full of life to this day. After high school Alex attended Texas Tech, completing 3 years studying mechanical engineering before turning his sites to culinary school. In 2004 he began attending Texas Culinary Academy, graduating in 2006. Alex has worked for many top tier restaurants, a few of which were six years under Dean Fearing of Fearings Restaurant in Dallas.  Coming back to Austin, he found his way to Counter 357, a tasting menu only restaurant as Sous Chef then Hill Country favorite, Apis Restaurant & Apiary as Chef de Cuisine. Alex came to Kristen Kish’s restaurant, Arlo Grey, in April of 2018 as Sous Chef. Alex was Kish’s first hire assisting in all aspects of opening and operating.  Kish took to Alex’s fine balance of cooking technique, storytelling through food, and his leadership. Alex was named Chef de Cuisine by Kish in November 2018. Alex resides in Austin with his wife Emily and their dog Rocko.
