FAQs

Why are you not having a festival in 2021?

Together with its staff and Board of Directors, Charleston Wine  + Food has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 festival due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The safety of our guests, participating talent, staff, vendors, and the greater Charleston community is our number one priority and one that should take precedence above all else.

The circumstances surrounding COVID-19 are changing day by day, and we have been closely monitoring the situation, seeking guidance from government + community leadership and staying in close communication with our local food + beverage community. Given the negative impacts COVID-19 has had on our local restaurant + hotel community and new constraints on the live events industry, Charleston Wine + Food believes that the execution of its 2021 festival is not in the best interest of our community at this time.

Why are you making the decision to cancel so early?

Over the past 15 years the festival has grown to include more than 120 events and welcomes talent from around the world to Charleston to celebrate our unique foodways and community. An event of this scale takes a full year to plan effectively and involves the collaboration from several sectors of our community, many of which have been negatively impacted due to COVID-19.

How can I support the Charleston culinary + hospitality community during this time?

The restaurant + hospitality communities have been greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. These businesses make up the fabric of our local communities – they are where you celebrate special occasions, catch up with family + friends, and they support so many wonderful causes and employ millions of people. Please visit our COVID-19 Information Hub for resources on how you can continue to support the community during this time.

One of the most fundamental human elements is the ability to connect with other humans. As a wine and food festival that is what we do; we create opportunities for others to connect over wine and food. We want to create a festival, and an organization, where everyone feels a sense of belonging. On our journey to becoming an actively antiracist organization, one that is a true reflection of the culinary and hospitality community of Charleston, we recognize that we have a lot of work to do. We aim to be transparent and we want you to hold us accountable for the actions we say we will take.

How can I continue to support Charleston Wine + Food?

In place of the in-person 2021 festival, we’re planning other ways to uplift our community and continue our efforts of making Charleston Wine + Food a more inclusive and equitable organization. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, our mission is to produce experiences that celebrate, educate, and promote the Lowcountry’s diverse culinary + hospitality community. At the core of this mission are our values: people first, community, diversity, and good stewardship. We are committed to creating an organization where everyone feels a sense of belonging. We will be using our platform to amplify the messages of our community and share valuable resources for how others can help support and advocate for the culinary + hospitality industry. By reinforcing and sharing this mission-based work, you can help ensure the health of Charleston Wine + Food in the short + long term.
