During the 18th and 19th centuries, Charleston was the Madeira-consuming capital of America. Step inside the freestanding bar at Husk – what once had disintegrated into an austere ruin next to the main dining room – and experience curated dishes paired with the “immortal wine.” 

At this high-end dinner experience, sommelier Cha McCoy – founder of the wine dinner experience, The Communion – will lead guests through a tasting of various vintages of Madeira that will pay homage to the popular Madeira clubs of the Lowcountry. You’ll learn about the history and different varietals of Madeira, and how we can trace the legacy of today’s Black sommeliers through these wine-focused social clubs. Surrounded by century-old exposed brick still intact you’ll step into a bygone era of Charleston nightlife and continue the city’s historic tippling traditions.
