Rice Fields + Winnows: The West African Connection

Shuttle Pick-Up @ CHSWF Excursion Hub

The most significant crop in the world, rice is a staple in the diets of more than half of the Earth’s people. In the American South, rice became the cash crop for plantation owners at the expense of the enslavement of thousands of Africans. Embark on a journey to West Africa with local Gullah culinary historian + Chef BJ Dennis and friends for an exploration of rice, grains, and the African agrarian influence in the Lowcountry. You’ll end the afternoon with a collaborative meal highlighting the influence of rice in the Lowcountry.
