Farm Raised

Shuttle Pick-Up @ CHSWF Excursion Hub

Deep in the maritime forests near the Edisto River in Dorchester, SC, Marvin Ross runs Peculiar Pig Farm. Founded in 2009, his style is considered “regenerative,” by some, but to Marvin, it’s simply what he was taught: raising + rotating hogs on wooded lots where they graze + forage, and supplementing what they find with heritage grains. Spend a day on the farm with the Ross family and explore the process of cooking whole hog barbecue, sustainable pig farming, and how this style of barbecuing is rooted in the Black experience in America. You’ll end the afternoon in a communal meal prepared with pork from Peculiar Pig Farm.
