Chef Service Lead

REPORTS TO: Event Manager + Event Director
TERM: Flexible Start – March 9, 2020


The Chef Service Lead manages the fundamental aspects of the organization and distribution of all compostable service pieces + cutlery. The includes receiving orders, organizing all pieces, and appropriately distributing. The position will be responsible for invoicing Culinary Village participants violating the sustainability policy. The Chef Service Lead may also assist with additional tasks in the Culinary Village as needed.
Skills required include the ability to lift 25+ lbs and stand for up to (8) hours, great interpersonal skills, and strong attention to detail. The ideal candidate is a quick problem-solver, strong leader, and extremely organized. The candidate must be able to appropriately solve issues using our policies and values as guidelines, and know how to ask for support from the team when needed.


Schedule (1) day to come into the Charleston Wine + Food office to connect on objectives + best practices, the Culinary Village, “offsite” events, order information, and to on-board + meet the team

Be present on-site in the Spike Warehouse to organize + sort all pieces 1-2 days prior to festival week

Receive delivery of all serving pieces to the Storage Tent in the Culinary Village during the week of the festival

Sort all serving pieces for offsite events prior to Wednesday, March 4th, and all serving pieces for the Culinary Village prior to Friday, March 6th

Work with Event Leads, Neighborhood Leads, and Snack Shack Leads for appropriate distribution

Make note of where orders are short or overstocked

Work with Charleston Wine + Food team to ensure that all remaining serving pieces are completely put away, clearly labeled, and organized into boxes for easy load-out

Exhibit excellence guest experience skills when interacting with team, volunteers, and guests

Act as a brand representative of Charleston Wine + Food, and portray values of people first, community, diversity, and good stewardship

Recognize + use our higher purpose as a guide in every decision made on behalf of the festival: “To be a catalyst for connections that inspire curiosity through thoughtful storytelling and meaningful experiences with a sense of place”


Provide own laptop + cell phone that are able to run cloud-based software and apps

Live in greater Charleston, SC area, and have a personal vehicle able to be used throughout festival weekend

Clearly communicate with full team upon hire hours + days dedicated to Charleston Wine + Food

Competent in Microsoft Office, G Suite (Google Docs + Sheets), interoffice communication channels, with professional writing and communication skills

Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of people

Comfortable working in an outdoor setting

Must be available + onsite for festival execution for full days March 5 – March 8
