Charleston Wine + Food

From hip happenings around town to opportunities for supporting our local culinary + hospitality community, What’s Fresh is Charleston Wine + Food’s latest blog series. Take a seat at one of Charleston’s newest patio pop-ups, have your finger on the pulse of the latest + greatest happenings at your go-to spots in town, and stay in the know of how the industry is continuing to provide active ways for community engagement.

Here’s what’s fresh in Charleston during the month of August.

Head downstairs to Bar Vauté

Make your descent down One Broad’s historic staircase to one of the only below-street-level bars in downtown Charleston.  Located beneath the soon-to-open Brasserie la Banque, Bar Vauté is a destination of its own for after-hours imbibing + enjoyment. This speakeasy style bar – or “bar clandestin” if you will – is hidden in plain sight; it will serve as a cozy counterpart + extension to Brasserie la Banque’s main dining room by day and transform to a secluded cocktail bar and evening eatery in the evening.

The “bar below the street” highlights a variety of specialty cocktails alongside French Onion Grilled Cheese, seasonal crepes, caviar, and other French-inspired delicacies. Stop in Tuesday – Saturday from 4 – 11 PM.

Park & Grove Grand Opening

Charleston’s much loved neighborhood gem The Park Cafe reopened as Park & Grove this week. Nestled in the same location just steps away from Hampton Park in historic downtown, Park & Grove’s menu will move with the seasons, with dishes + cocktails that reflect the abundance from local fields, farms, and waters. This seasonal eatery will have a primary focus on dinner, but will remain open for lunch + brunch. Avocado toast lovers need not worry – it’s not going anywhere!

Tacos de la Bahia Pop-Up at Sightsee Shop

Mark your calendar for this Sunday, August 8 and head over to Sightsee Shop from 9 AM – 1 PM for a Tacos de la Bahia pop-up with Chef Weiss. This special brunch inspired series will feature inventive tacos and offerings including a manischewitz brisket bagel and picked deviled eggs. Keep an eye on Sightsee’s Instagram and website for more details!

Zero Restaurant + Bar Guest Somm Series

Step inside the courtyard and into the intimate dining room at Zero Restaurant + Bar for their new guest sommelier series. On Wednesday, August 18, guest somm Josh Walker of Wine & Company will select featured wine pairings to accompany the signature tasting menu from Chef Vinson Petrillo. Request to be notified if seats become available for this month’s event, and keep an eye out for future guest sommelier dinners. Get ready to take your tastebuds on an adventure adventure.
