As we approach the one-year mark since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, most of the data of its effects on restaurants has been conducted on a national level and localizing that data has proven difficult.
Through a survey administered by the College of Charleston Office of Tourism Analysis and with support from the City of Charleston, we aim to investigate the ongoing state of the Charleston restaurant industry amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
This survey has been distributed to local restaurants in the Charleston area. Anonymous + confidential data gathered will assess how establishments have responded to the pandemic, the industry’s outlook toward the future, and whether certain types of establishments have been especially impacted by the crisis. The findings will be summarized in a report provided by the College of Charleston Office of Tourism Analysis and shared via Charleston Wine + Food. In addition, the findings will be shared in an academic journal article.
Participating restaurants will help form a better understanding of the effects that COVID-19 has had on our local industry. This knowledge will inform advocacy + policy efforts to effectively aid + heal our food + beverage community.
