Charleston Wine + Food

Charleston Wine + Food is pleased to announce the finalists for the 2016 Charleston Wine + Food Official Cocktail Competition. The 8th annual competition, supported by IMBIBE, serves as a showcase and celebration of Charleston’s growing and vibrant cocktail culture.

Over 30 local mixologists representing a diverse sampling of area bars and restaurants competed in a first-round cocktail showdown, December 17, 2015, at Duvall Catering & Event Design. Contestants were challenged with creating their own interpretation of the classic gin cocktail, the French 75. The first-round panel of judges included John Aquino (USBG-Charleston), Joe Raya (Bittermilk and Tippleman’s), Jon Calo (Burwell’s Stonefire Grill), and Travis Hartong (Bottles Beverage Superstore).

The remaining four finalists will present their original cocktails during a final round of closed judging and the winner will be announced at Art in a Glass, scheduled for Wednesday, January 20, 2016, 5:30 – 7:30p.m.

In addition to artful libations, artist Whitney Kreb will reveal her artwork created for the 2016 Official Charleston Wine + Food Poster. Each year, Charleston Wine + Food works with a local artist to produce an original piece of work that reflects the distinct flavor of the Lowcountry. Kreb is represented by the George Gallery in downtown Charleston.

The price of the event is $50 and includes a sampling of all four final cocktails, small bites, and a 2016 Official Poster. Tickets are available for purchase right here.

In addition to industry bragging rights, the winning cocktail will be featured exclusively at the festival’s kick-off event (Opening Night: Cheers to Charleston!, presented by Art Institute of Charleston + supported by Charleston Magazine), Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at Charleston Gaillard Center.
