Tasting Notes

In Memoriam

laura_1It is with great honor and respect that we celebrate the life of Laura Hewitt (9.15.2014), one of the founding members of BB&T Charleston Wine + Food, former Board Chair and Chair Emeritus. Laura was an incredible mentor to many of us at the festival. Along with her husband Bill, Laura was instrumental in the creation and success of the festival as a hands-on leader, visionary, foodie and friend. “Laura was a quintessential Southern lady and mentor to every Board Chair that followed her trailblazing path. Even when she stopped attending our meetings, we always felt her presence. The festival extends our deepest condolences to the Hewitt family – Bill, their children and their 16 beloved grandchildren,” says Johnny Wallace, Board Chair. In 2009, BB&T Charleston Wine + Food created the Laura Hewitt Culinary Legend Award to annually salute a significant person or organization in the culinary community. Past award winners include third-generation shrimper Wayne Magwood, Martha Lou Gadsden of Martha Lou’s Kitchen, Charleston Grill General Manager Mickey Bakst, “Hoppin’ John” Taylor, and the Lee Bros., among others. Charleston’s culinary community, and especially Charleston Wine + Food, shines brighter because of the dedication and efforts of Laura Hewitt.

The Scoop: Ticket Launch Week

On Wednesday, August 27th #CHSWFF launched our 2015 ticket schedule! Celebrating ten years of BB&T Charleston Wine + Food involves adding in even more festive, friendly fun to our beloved festival. From our launch party, new schedule, and new website – we’ve got a new story to tell! Last Wednesday night, we toasted the decade with a ticket launch event called Party @ The Power House presented by Limehouse Produce and Charleston Magazine. Top Charleston chefs and our favorite local food trucks joined forces for one night only under the stars of North Charleston’s most architectural wonder, The Power House. The food was electric, the booze flowed freely, and the tunes turned a grassy patch into a dance floor. Fun was had by all! [tribulant_slideshow gallery_id="2"]
