The BB&T Charleston Wine + Food Festival® continues to grow more and more each year, and its participants have grown with it. The Festival staff loves to reminisce about previous years, so we thought it would be fun to ask guests to send us their favorite memories from the Festival throughout the years. Some people recalled watching the Festival grow year by year. Others remembered meeting their favorite chefs, being introduced to their favorite wine, and even creating a tradition out of the events! With so many good things to say, here are a few memories from our wonderful guests:

“My girlfriend and I, both Charleston residents, have been attending the Festival since its first year.  We have enjoyed watching it grow from a line of small tents set up in Marion Square to several huge white tents. The food of course is our main reason for coming each year.  It is a joy to sample Charleston’s great restaurants one after the other.  Now it does take at least two days to see it all in Marion Square – and we could not be happier!”

“My favorite memory is from the 2011 Festival, when we attended the all day farm to table events that took us by bus to Wadmalaw Island. We also visited the tea plantation and learned all about America’s only tea, but my favorite was the dairy/goat farm we visited to learn about making goat cheese that is used by the local chefs.  The farmer and his farm were fascinating and we got to meet all of his little goats!  Here is a picture of my favorite!”

“This is our once a year event. In the midst of our very busy lives, we set aside a few days each year to enjoy the Wine + Food Festival in Charleston. This will be our 5th year, and we plan to attend many more. Being an original Charleston native, I find this festival to be a great event for the city. The array of culinary talent, wine selection, and friendly people, makes this our destination each year.”

“One of my very best memories was last year attending ‘wine around the garden’ at Middleton Place.  My Mom & I spent the entire afternoon walking the grounds feeling like we were somewhere in Europe.  Every turn introduced us to a new breathtaking view as well as another unique tasting wine.  It was truly a magical experience.  I think of it often as a spectacular escape.  I look forward to the next magical memory in 2013!!”

“I remember trying Callie’s Biscuits for the first time at the very first festival and commenting that their business would be a hit someday.  The festival allows local vendors to showcase their goods to such a diverse crowd. I have tons of fond memories from the festival and I’m sure there will be more to come.”

“Seriously, I think one of my favorites was last year at the Locavore Luncheon at High Cotton when the farmer showed us all the picture of the calf and told us her name, then shared that this was the cow we would be eating for the next 2 courses.”
