Wendy Gleim is Chef and Owner of both Scratch Kitchen and The Wickliffe House, located in Charleston, South Carolina. Born and raised in Michigan, she has worked in the food and beverage industry since she was 14. Leaving a Mackinac Island, Michigan restaurant in 1991, ¬†Wendy moved to Charleston to attend Johnson & Wales University where she everything from being a dishwasher, a server, a barista, and eventually a restaurant manager. In 1998 she opened Mediterra Catering with her husband Jeff. With Mediterra she returned permanently to the kitchen and produced some of Charleston’s premier events for Spoleto USA, The Historic Charleston Foundation, MUSC and thousands of others. In 2004 she opened The Wickliffe House, a special event venue and cafe restaurant, located in an historic Charleston home downtown. 2014 has seen some change, as she has refocused her energies into events and relaunched her personal chef and catering company as “Scratch Kitchen.” Gleim has been a participating chef in every Charleston Wine + Food festival since it’s start in 2004.
