Vanessa grew up in Columbia, SC and although she left for a time to spread her wings, she always felt the pull of home. After attending Brevard, she decided to pursue environmental stewardship and event work out west. In 2005, she returned to the east coast to take a job in Asheville, NC, at a national green events company. After some time, she dreamt of coming back to Columbia to help promote the burgeoning local food community there, putting her experience to work in her own hometown. Her vision became a reality in 2011 with the creation of Farm to Table Event Company, a partnership with City Roots, Columbia’s only in-town, sustainable and organic farm, and Kristian Niemi, Owner of Bourbon Columbia. From the very first farm dinner at City Roots, Vanessa has worked with her partners to tirelessly connect local farmers and chefs in her community through sustainable event production, highlighting the natural hospitality her hometown exudes. Vanessa has always been proud of Columbia, and she loves orchestrating events to support the inextricable links between farm and table.
