At the age of eight, Vandy Vanderwarker fell in love with food and developed a strong appreciation for quality ingredients as he helped his mother prepare them for gourmet family meals every night in their home in Charlottesville, VA. Immediately after graduation in 2004, he started working at Thomas Keller’s four-star Per Se, where he supported several stations, including entremetier, poissonier and saucier, before moving through the kitchens of some of NY’s most acclaimed restaurants, including Tom Colicchio’s Craftbar, the Patina Group’s Brasserie 8 ½ and Eighty-one.  After five years in the city, Vanderwarker decided to move to Charleston, SC, to explore the burgeoning culinary scene and enjoy the gorgeous beaches. In 2012, Lata and partner Adam Nemirow opened The Ordinary, an oyster bar and seafood hall in Charleston’s Upper King District.  Vanderwarker was promoted to FIG’s sister restaurant in 2013 as chef de cuisine, helping lead The Ordinary to great local and national acclaim, including being named Best New Restaurant by GQ, Esquire and Bon Appétit.
