Shay MacDonald has served as chef of HōM, Upper King’s burger boutique, ping-pong lounge and neighborhood bar, since 20XX. He has amassed a loyal following with the exciting menu he developed for the restaurant.

The Pennsylvania-born chef got his first glimpse at the excitement of restaurant life as a young teenager when he visited his brother at a Charleston hotel. Years later, Shay returned to the Holy City when he landed his first chef job out of culinary school at the Belmond Charleston Place Hotel.

Shay gained experience in several notable establishments throughout South Carolina and his native Pennsylvania. Such successful stints include: McCrady’s (Sous Chef), Turtle Point Grill Kiawah Island (Executive Sous Chef, Interim Chef), Charleston Chops (Chef De Cuisine), and Green Gables Restaurant in Jennerstown PA (Executive Chef).

Like many area chefs, Shay thrives on the lively Charleston culinary scene and is looking forward to growing HōM’s burger boutique concept of a fine dining approach to casual dining, as well as creating additional features for the restaurant’s investors.

Shay received culinary training at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Academy of Culinary Arts, which is accredited Culinary Institute of America; he graduated with high honors.
