Chef Kayla Bennett began her career in her hometown of Greenville, South Carolina, where she worked her way up from a fast-paced American restaurant. Relocating to Charleston to earn her degree in Culinary Arts, she worked alongside renowned Charleston chef and restauranteur Robert Dickson at his fine dining restaurant, Robert’s of Charleston, as a line cook.

Upon The Gin Joint’s opening in 2010, Kayla began as the restaurant’s cook, working with owner and chef MariElena Raya. In 2014, she took the reins in the kitchen as chef. As The Gin Joint’s chef, she works with local purveyors and farmers and creates its sophisticated menu of fresh, seasonal bar snacks and desserts to complement the cocktail bar’s libations.
