Germaine Jenkins is a native of SC who was raised in Ohio. She moved to the Lowcountry with her two young children to attend Johnson & Wales University. Her personal struggles with food insecurity fueled her need to find ¬†affordable ways to grow organic foods. After completing Commercial Urban Agriculture training with Growing Power Inc. Germaine won a Feeding Innovation Competition and seed capital to start Fresh Future Farm Inc. an urban farm and neighborhood grocery store in the heart of a food desert. Like her mentor Will Allen, Germaine believes that growing and selling food where it’s consumed can impact health and socioeconomic disparities.
