A native of California, Darcy Shankland worked for Santa Barbara magazine for eight years before moving to the South Carolina Lowcountry in August 2000 to take the helm of Charleston, a bimonthly publication. Since then, the city’s premier lifestyle publication has grown in page count, number of subscribers, and frequency (it has been a monthly publication since 2007) and has won multiple industry awards, including FOLIO magazine’s 2007 Eddie for Best Regional Consumer Magazine and the 2015 Eddie for Best Series of Articles in a Regional Consumer Magazine.
Under her guidance as editor-in-chief, Charleston spun off two semi-annual titles, Charleston Home and Charleston Weddings. She also helped create sister publications, WNC—mountain living in Western North Carolina and G—the magazine for Greenville, SC. Darcy is a past board member for the Center for Women, Coastal Community Foundation, Halsey Institute for Contemporary Art, and Lowcountry AIDS Services. When not out and about learning all things Charleston, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Wally Seinsheimer, and two wildly entertaining stepchildren, Charlie and Abby.
