BJ Lieberman

Rose's Luxury | Washington, DC

Born and raised in Northern VA, BJ attended The College of Charleston in Charleston, SC where he studied Graphic Design and Marketing. In 2008, BJ was the Marketing Director for a Charleston restaurant group where he found himself spending more time in the catering kitchen than at his desk which lead to his decision to attend culinary school.

BJ attended The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY spending his culinary externship at McCrady’s Restaurant in Charleston, SC under Chef Sean Brock. After graduating the CIA, BJ moved back to Charleston to help open Husk Restaurant in 2010 as the Butcher’s Assistant and eventually Chef Tournant. Husk, also a Sean Brock restaurant, quickly made an impact on the national scene winning Bon Appetit’s coveted Best New Restaurant in America award as well as features in national media outlets which helped propel Charleston’s food scene towards its current international acclaim.

After two and a half years at Husk, BJ joined his good friend, Aaron Silverman, in Washington, DC to help open Rose’s Luxury as the opening Sous Chef. Upon opening in 2013 Rose’s shortly achieved a sparkling review from the Washington Post followed by Best New Restaurant by both Bon Appetit and GQ magazines. Two years later, as Chef de Cuisine of Rose’s, BJ helped lay the groundwork for opening Pineapple and Pearls. In 2016 the Michelin Guide announced it was adding Washington, DC, as it’s newest guidebook. In the inaugural issue, Rose’s Luxury received one Michelin Star while Pineapple and Pearls received two. Those ratings were retained in the book’s second edition in 2017.

Most recently, BJ was promoted to Head Chef of Rose’s Luxury as well as holding the same post as Head Chef at Little Pearl which opened in December, 2017. In addition to helping lead Rose’s Luxury and Little Pearl, BJ assists the Rose’s Restaurant Group in trying to build a company that offers the highest quality food and hospitality for its guests while also creating an environment for its staff that offers growth opportunities and benefits that promote balance not traditional in the industry.

BJ resides on Capitol Hill in DC with his wife Bronwyn and pup Phyl.
