Hop aboard the shuttle for an unforgettable rustic journey to the heart of Gullah and soul food cuisine hosted by local food writer Jeff Allen. The tour will start at Marion Square, where Allen will lead a brief walking tour and overview of Charleston’s culinary history en route to the first restaurant of the day: Dave’s Carryout, a stop to get your taste buds grooving! Then it’s on to the sublimely crunchy, buttery, and tasty soul food that’s a product of the secret family recipes at Bertha’s Kitchen. Next, we’re indulging in what’s been described as “roll-your-eyes-it’s-so-good food” at Martha Lou’s, followed by a visit to Ernie and Henrietta Kinloch at Ernie’s, one of Charleston’s best-kept soul food secrets. Last … but not least … is a special dessert at Alluette’s Cafe, a holistic soul food establishment. This is a dry trip!
