Wonderfully salty, seemingly sweet clusters of roasted oysters harvested from pristine Lowcountry waters are what you’ll dine on inside the reconstructed original house of Robert Barber’s legendary Bowens Island Restaurant. As you kick back at this communal feast and quench your thirst with an ice-cold beer or apple cider, Southern Foodways Alliance—which documents, studies and celebrates the diverse food cultures of the American South—will screen two brief films that’ll give you a behind-the-scenes overview of this rustic family-owned institution and a glimpse into the life of Victor “Goat” Lafayette, who has picked oysters on the island for over fifty years.
Shuttle departs Marion Square Park at 1:30 pm and leaves Bowens Island at 4:00 pm.
